Didier Drogba has been on vacation in the USA since the signing of his contract with Shanghai Shenhua and is set to arrive in China on 14 July.

The arrival of the captain of the Ivoirian national team was initially expected for 13 July at the latest, as indicated by his club and coach Sergio Batista, but it was postponed by a day.

This information was announced this Tuesday by the club of Drogba’s ex-team mate from Chelsea, Nicolas Anelka.

Shanghai Shenhua is currently struggling in the championship with no more than a one-point lead on the lowest-ranked team, and they are counting on the 2012 European champion’s arrival to help them get back on their feet.

The former Marseille player will be presented on the evening of his arrival at the Stade de Hongkou, and his first outing in his new colours is set for 18 July in the China Cup round of sixteen clash against Sataï.

Thus begins a new chapter for the 34-year old Ivoirian striker, after spending eight years at Chelsea and in the Premier League.

Not long ago the Ivoirian was rumoured to be heading to FC Barcelona, but this information was denied just as quickly by the Blaugrana club president, Rosell Sandro.

Didier Drogba, who moved from Marseille to the Blues in 2004, signed up at Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua on 20 June 2012 for two and a half years, on a salary estimated at 248 000 Euros per week (162 million F CFA).
