Nigerian international, Gabriel Reuben has lifted the lid on the reason he refused to travel to Belgium's top flight club, AA Ghent after the club secured a visa and booked a flight ticket for him.
The Kano Pillars' midfielder claimed he was put off by telephone calls from one Tunde Fabiyi about the AA Ghent deal.
Reuben cleared the air by telling supersport.com that he is only willing to deal with his manager, Tony Harris.
"I initially had a good feeling about travelling to Belgium after my manager informed me that the club coach, Trond Sollied, was impressed with the prospect of me joining the club but somewhere along the line I began to feel very uncomfortable with the whole situation after a person called Tunde Fabiyi began pestering and harassing my life telling me all sorts of nonsense, lies and suspicious stories regarding my transfer to AA Ghent.
"I started receiving so many calls from Tunde and I even had to switch off my phone because I did not want to deal with him.
"My manager did not finally authorize my travel to Ghent and therefore we abandoned the arranged trip to Belgium three weeks ago," the midfielder revealed.
Reuben's focus is now on the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying against Liberia on Saturday.
The player also expressed unhappiness about financial details of a deal he had not signed being exposed to the public.
"I am now focused on our crucial game against Liberia for now and it upsets that Tunde has decided to choose this important week to talk about me in the media.
"I believe that everything would have been okay if Tunde did not get involved and the fact that Tunde has revealed personal financial information about a three-year contract from Ghent shows the type of person he is and that he is not trustworthy," said Reuben.
Kano Pillars' chairman, Abba Galadima, was stunned that he was quoted in local newspapers about a deal for Reuben when he did not grant any interview to that effect.
Galadima distanced himself from discussing a possible transfer for Reuben with anyone outside of Harris.
"I have not discussed this issue with anybody. We have been dealing with Gabriel's manager, Mr Tony Harris regarding various possible transfers and we are not dealing with anybody else. Very often people are quoted when they have not even discussed," Galadima told supersport.com on Tuesday night.
Reuben has been a subject of a transfer to AA Ghent in the media before the summer transfer window shut down last month.
