NPL side ABS FC held Nigeria U20s to a goalless draw in a friendly played inside the Ilorin Township Stadium on Sunday.

The Flying Eagles, who used this game as part of their build-up for a 2013 African Youth Championship qualifier in Tanzania later this month, dictated the pace at the start of this game watched by an impressive crowd that included sports minister Bolaji Abdullahi.

However, the host team soon gained in confidence and stepped up in a very competitive game.

In the 25th minute, a good combination play involving Aminu Umar and Harrison Egbune released Umar inside the 18-yard box, but the Flying Eagles striker fired over the bar.

ABS, who paraded star striker Abdulrahman Bashir, responded moments later as they swept past their opponents back four, but their finishing let them down.

Ukraine-based left back Aliyu Mohammed, part of the Flying Eagles Class of 2011, started this match and showed he has improved thanks to his time in Europe.

In first half stoppage time, substitute Sikiru Alimi also came close for the Flying Eagles.

The best chance of the entire game fell to ABS two minutes after the break when they cashed in on a rare blunder by the dependable Ikechukwu Okorie in the heart of the Flying Eagles defence, only for them to be blocked by the diving goalkeeper and skipper Samuel Okani.

The Flying Eagles bossed the second 45 minutes, confining ABS to their own half of the pitch.

However, despite the pressure they could only force one save from the ABS goalkeeper in the dying minutes of the game.
