The woman, whose name was said to be Blessing, a native of Calabar lives with her husband and father of her children Mr. Umar Aba alias Jogodo in a secluded apartment on Dauda street, few metres away from where she eventually put to bed.
An eye witness, Kunle Olawale, one of the labourers working on the on-going construction of roads in the area, said Blessing scream for help drew the attention of the workers and some officials of the State Rapid Response Squad who were on patrol in the area to ensure to ensure peaceful conduct of the Local government elections.
According to him, “We were working here, when suddenly we heard someone shouting Help!help!!help!!!. Immediately we ran towards that direction and on sighting her we asked her what happened she shouted baby and before we could move closer to her, she had already delivered the baby. That was when we all got to know her plight.”
He said Blessing started calling for help from BodeThomas where she was later assisted and moved to the neighboring Adeniran Ogunsanya where she eventually delivered the baby boy.
“The whole thing happened so fast, I have never seen anything like this before, and when we inquired from her about her husband she told us his name and informed that this was her fifth baby for him.
“When we queried further about her husband whereabouts, she explained that he was at home and refused to take her to the hospital because he does not have money to pay the hospital bill.”
The eye witness said the situation got them more curious to ask about the four other children and shockingly “ we learnt that after she has successfully delivered the husband will take the child from her and send them to Borno State”.
