A star footballer is to go on trial accused of torturing and killing his mistress, then feeding her dismembered body parts to his pet dogs.
Married Bruno Fernandes de Souza, 27, a goalkeeper once tipped to play for Brazil, is alleged to have turned model Eliza Samudio 'into a human sacrifice' to preserve his reputation after she gave birth to his love child.
He is already serving a four-and-a-half-year prison sentence after being convicted of assaulting and abducting Ms Samudio, 25, but will be tried for her murder later this year.
Prosecutors allege that Bruno planned Ms Samudio's kidnap and murder with eight others, including his wife Dayane, a teenage cousin and former detective Luiz Santos, all of whom have been charged with murder, conspiracy to murder and kidnapping. The goalkeeper, who played for Brazilian club Flamengo, is said to have watched as Santos committed 'barbaric tortures' on Ms Samudio before helping the former detective dismember her body.
Parts of the woman's body are alleged to have been fed to Bruno's dogs while the rest was buried in concrete. Bruno is accused of ordering his wife to tell people that his love child, who was four months old at the time of the killing, had been adopted by them from a poor relative.
It is also claimed that Bruno told police Ms Samudio was 'a whore who will not be missed by anyone'. A Brazilian newspaper has reported that the prosecution at the trial will allege that Bruno attacked a supporter, smoked cannabis and attended orgies with fellow players.
Edson Moreira, a detective who investigated the case, told the Sunday Express: 'An idol like Bruno, from such a major team, has turned out to be a monster. 'We have witnesses who will testify that he turned this girl into a human sacrifice merely to try to protect his reputation.'
The trial is expected to hear that Bruno met Ms Samudio at a party held by a teammate. 'Unfortunately for her, they slept together that night and she later discovered she was pregnant,' Mr Moreira said. 'When she approached de Souza and told him he was the father, he became enraged.
Prosecutors will allege that Bruno planned Ms Samudio's murder after she told him she would take legal action to prove he was the father of her child. In a statement to police, his cousin claimed that, led by Santos, they kidnapped Ms Samudio from a hotel in Rio de Janeiro on June 4, 2010. He said they drove her some 220 miles to a property in Belo Horizonte which the footballer and his wife used occasionally as a weekend retreat, where Ms Samudio was tortured.
It is claimed that Santos played loud music on the stereo to drown out the woman's screams. Bruno, whose contract with Flamengo has been suspended, also faces charges of kidnapping, hiding a body and forming a criminal gang with intent to murder. He has maintained his innocence throughout, claiming he has a 'clear conscience'. Culled from Daily Mail

Very
Strange! Residents of the Kubwa area of Abuja a community on the
outskirts of the FCT, got the shock of their lives when an unusual
incident involving a businessman occurred about two weeks ago. according
to Punch The businessman, Edward Asuelimen, had woken up in the morning of July 16 with severe pain in his stomach.
“I woke up a few minutes after 5 am. In less than two hours, I had visited the toilet four times. Then I felt excruciating pain in my stomach. It got to a point where I could hardly prepare my children for school,” Asuelimen recounts.
Even his wife was very worried. But he managed to pull himself together and left their home with the children.
Halfway to the children’s school, the pain became unbearable and he decided to get some drugs from a store on the way.
Yet, a few minutes later, Asuelimen barely managed to walk out of the store by gripping the walls for support.
“I prayed hard to get back home. Anybody who saw me at that point wouldn’t have believed that there was something wrong with me,” he says.
He kept praying and fighting the pain raging in his stomach until he got home. He was so weak that he could not step out of his car.
Asuelimen’s wife was alarmed at his condition. She suggested that he should seek medical attention in a hospital after he gasped and said, “Help me quickly, I can’t breathe.”
The businessman had no choice other than to listen to his wife. Eventually, he was admitted at Unity Clinic and Maternity Home, which was nearby.
At intervals, his panic-stricken wife called out his name just to be sure that he was still alive.
“I had never experienced that kind of pain before. I was merely hanging on with all my strength and faith in God. At the hospital, the medical director and his staff were already having their morning devotion.
“When my wife called the doctor and he helped me to come out of my car, the only thing I could say was, ‘my tommy, my tummy’ I was given an injection and somebody stayed with me, all the while praying as the rest continued the morning devotion.
“The Holy Spirit pushed me to speaking in tongues at that point. Not long afterwards, I felt a strong urge to vomit and I did.”
Asuelimen vomited two live lizards in the hospital. The incident however caused consternation among members of the staff of the hospital and other patients present.
“When my wife tried to get something to clean my mouth and pack it, I saw a lizard crawling out from the vomit on the ground. The nurse that attended to me saw another one and wanted to kill it,” he says.
When he saw the lizards, the first thought that struck him was that he had been poisoned. But the pain ceased after he vomited the reptiles. The doctor told him that he had just received divine healing.
“I got well almost instantly. Even I joined the hospital staff in burning the lizards. I went home had my bath and continued the day’s business as if nothing had happened to me,” he says.
The news of the event spread like wildfire. Soon Asuelimen started receiving phone calls from his friends, relatives, neighbours and associates. They congratulated him for surviving a close shave with death.
Eventually, the incident became the talk among the residents of Kubwa. Everybody seemed to be mystified and for some time, they discussed the incident in hushed tones.
The lizards are sstill the subject of debate in the community and the residents are torn between accepting the mystery and waving it aside, since they are convinced that it cannot be proved scientifically.
But Asuelimen says, “I am not a medical doctor, and I know that it cannot be proved scientifically. I know that faith is older and stronger than science. The faith we are talking about is God himself. God is the creator of the universe, so invention and science itself is dependent on God.
“Some things are real and beyond proof. We don’t have to subject God’s miracle and existence to scrutiny. It does not make sense because I know there are many things that God can do, which science cannot prove. I am talking about divine healing and miracles in particular. The fact that science cannot prove it does not mean they are not real.”
The Medical Director of Unity Clinic and Maternity, Dr. Stephen Nwaedozie, confirmed the incident. He says, “When I got to the car, I saw Edward writhing in pain. I brought him out of the vehicle and attended to him. We started praying for him. Not long afterwards, my nurses told me that he had vomited lizards.
“I personally burnt the lizards and poured anointing oil on them and buried the carcasses. As soon as we did that, the man recovered from the stomach pain. He is a child of God and with faith he told them to bring him to my hospital and when he came here, God delivered him. So we praise God.”
Nwaedozie admitted that there was no way science could explain the appearance of the lizards in Asuelimen’s vomit. “If I was not there and it didn’t happen right before me, I won’t believe. So that is why we have to tell the world the truth,” he says.

What Peter Okoye told an Encomium magazine reporter:
She has been diabetic for years, and when it started many months back, we got good doctors to treat her in Jos. But when we couldn’t get good result, we brought her to Lagos. We took her to St Nicholas Hospital and everybody who went to see her in the hospital cried. She had lost a lot of weight and couldn’t recognise us. She called me Jude. I can never forget that day.
She went through a lot and gradually she got stabilized thereafter she was moved to the intensive care unit (ICU) and she spent two to three weeks there. So we thought of moving her to South Africa, India or the US for proper check up.
We eventually took her to India about four weeks ago and we talked every one hour. The Indian doctors made sure to clean everywhere before the surgery, and the operation was successful. Our sisters who were with her confirmed this to us and we were very happy to hear the good news. She was okay before the eventual death and for a day one of my sisters was unconscious because she couldn’t believe it.
We wanted to travel to India the following day she died (Thursday July 12) but we changed our plans. Her body arrived Lagos on Sunday July 15th. No concrete arrangement yet on the burial.

CNN anchor Anderson Cooper is planning to marry his long-term boyfriend, Ben Maisani, by early September.
Daily Mail reports the 45-year-old famous news anchor is hoping to wed his partner by Labor Day. Just weeks ago Cooper came forward publicly about his sexuality by admitting he’s gay. He and Maisani have been dating since 2009.
Maisani, 39, is French-born and lives with Cooper in his converted fire station townhouse. They were seen in New York’s West Village Sunday showing affection for one another. Both of them have a solid commitment to one another they want to seal with marriage.
When same-sex marriage became legal in the state last year, Cooper was considering coming out about his gay lifestyle then, the National Enquirer originally reported.
When Anderson Cooper announced his sexuality a short time ago he said, “The fact is,, I’m gay, always have been, always will be, and I couldn’t be more happy.”
Anderson and his boyfriend have had their ups and downs when it came to work schedules. Cooper cut back his travel for work and Maisani adjusted his night schedules working in a gay bar he owns — Eastern Bloc — located in Manhattan’s East Village.
Both men are said to live a low-key lifestyle. No date has been set for their wedding, but don’t be surprised if they wed by Labor Day 2012.
Justice Ojo of the Ogun State High Court sitting in Ota has struck
out the N2billion suit slammed on the founder of the Living Faith Church
Worldwide, Bishop David Oyedepo, for slapping a young lady during a
church service in 2009.
Robert Igbinedion, a Lagos based lawyer who filed the suit on behalf of the young lady, had asked the court to award N2billion as ‘general and exemplary damages’ against the flamboyant pastor among other reliefs.
But delivering judgment Thursday morning, Justice Ojo struck out the case, saying the application lacked merit on many grounds. He awarded a N20,000 cost against the applicant.
He said the girl, who was allegedly slapped, remained a ghost victim and that the applicant failed to prove that he attended the service where the girl was allegedly slapped and .
Mr. Oyedepo was named the richest pastor in Nigeria last year by Forbes magazine with an estimated worth of over N20billion.
Bishop Oyedepo
During the hearing of the case, Dele Adesina, counsel to Bishop Oyedepo, had complained to the court that they did not have a photograph and the video where the Bishop slapped the young lady.
Mr. Adesina had argued that there was nothing to show that the young lady who was slapped in the video – who had been dubbed ‘Miss Justice’ in the course of the suit – is a living person.
“There is nothing to show in the application that ‘Miss Justice’ is a living and existing person entitled to claim under the provisions of the 1999 Constitution,” Mr. Adesina said.
“We humbly submit that ‘Miss Justice’ is a fictitious person, not capable of being represented in court.
“For the applicant to establish that he is suing on behalf of another person, that person must be determinable and identifiable,” he added.
On his part, Mr. Igbinedion asked the court to grant him all his reliefs since the respondents, in denying that the young lady was slapped, had failed to help the court arrive at justice.
“The respondents rather chose to lay their defence on all imaginable legal technicalities without attacking or denying the several damaging allegations,” said Mr. Igbinedion.

An Egyptian man who went online to watch a po*n film for the first
time got the shock of his life when he found that the woman in the film
was his own wife.
The man, identified as Ramadan, instantly collapsed in disbelief on the floor at an internet shop before coming round and rushing home to face his unfaithful wife.
The woman first denied his allegations and started to swear at him, prompting her husband to face her with the film. Unable to deny it any more, she confessed to have betrayed him with her pre-marriage boy friend, telling him she had never loved him although they had four children during their 16-year marriage.
“I found 11 films showing my wife in indecent scenes with her lover….it was the first time I watched a po*n film and I did this just out of curiosity,”
Ramadan told Egyptian newspapers at his house in the northeastern province of Dakhalia.
“She first denied it and accused me of being insane before I faced her with the films…she then confessed to be still in love with her boyfriend, saying he is as young as her and that I am an old man.”
Ramadan said he had been happy during his marriage life until he logged on to that website. Newspapers did not say whether he decided to divorce her.

The
Nigerian Export- Import Bank (NEXIM) has signed a financing agreement
with the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development
(NIPRD) for the production of a sickle cell anaemia drug.
The Minister of State for Health, Muhammad Pate, and the Director of NIPRD, Karniyus Gamaniel, who both signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Robert Orya, NEXIM’s Bank Managing Director, described the contract as a pacesetter for the production of Niprisan, a sickle cell drug.
Orya disclosed that the partnership will ensure that the drug is not only consumed locally, but also exported to other countries in demonstration of the bank’s concern for sickle cell patients and the need to minimise the scourge of sickle cell anemia in the country and in other parts of the world.
“This is a project that we are excited about because we have been committed to the resuscitation of this project…we will not just be aiming at the monetary gains, but also social gains for the country,” he said.
The Minister of State for Health said that an interministerial committee will be set up later this week to supervise the production of the drugs.
“There are millions of Nigerians who suffer sickle cell disease and at the same time, there are remedies that in many cases we will not be able to reach them.
“But we are fortunate now that a Nigerian product- Niprisan has been found effective at alleviating this and it’s as a result of the research that NIPRID had done,” Pate said.
The agreement would enable NEXIM provide funds for the commercial production of the sickle cell drug, which is to be made from four botanical species indigenous to Nigeria.
